Dan Melchior
Dan Melchior is a singer/songwriter/guitarist who grew up in Shepperton, Surrey, (just outside London), England and is often labeled a 'garage rock' musician. He has appeared on 30+ recordings as a solo performer, a collaborator with Billy Childish and Holly Golightly and as a member of Dan Melchior's Broke Revue.[1]
The Broke Revue released three albums, the first being on Sympathy for the record Industry and the next two on In the Red Records, they also recorded a number of singles and ep's for other labels. During their tenure as a band they supported The White Stripes, The Fall, Mudhoney, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and Interpol, in shows around the United States before splitting up in 2004.
Since then Melchior has released 3 solo albums, and appeared on the Jandek tribute album 'Down in a Mirror'. His music continues to evolve and is very much a separate entity from some of his earlier blues based work, showing a definite influence of more experimental bands such as The Homosexuals and The Fall, as well as a healthy dose of absurdism of the very English type typified by the work of Vivian Stanshall and Syd Barrett.
Melchior has been a permanent resident in the United States for the last 6 years - settling first in Manhattan, New York with his wife Letha Rodman, and more recently re-locating to Durham, North Carolina.
Melchior continues to write and record prolifically. His new project/band is called Dan Melchior und Das Menace, and there have already been six singles, a 12 inch ep and two album released under this new name, with a third LP on its way.
